Blackfish Café - Gourmet Meals in the Wild

May 11, 2004 - Port McNeill, British Columbia. Northern Lights Expeditions elevates the role of backcountry food from merely subsistence to a fine art with their renowned Blackfish Café menu, featured on all their premium sea kayaking tours in British Columbia, Canada. Since 1983, Northern Lights has specialized in fresh-cooked gourmet cuisine on all its adventures.

Using only the freshest ingredients, including fresh fruits and vegetables, Northern Lights has been refining and expanding its menus for 22 years. In addition, fresh fish caught during the adventures accent the menus. Northern Lights' guides/chefs create delights that greatly enhance the enjoyment of the guests. A typical day on a Northern Lights tour may include Tasmanian Toast, with blueberries and peaches, for breakfast, Bocconcini sandwiches on focaccia bread with fresh basil for lunch, and freshly made lasagna for dinner, along with a salad with salalberry vinaigrette dressing. The desserts are delicious, as well, and leave guests wondering how Northern Lights can create these delectable dishes in the middle of the wilderness.

Northern Lights' founder, David Arcese, has always held the belief that great food is an essential part of an enjoyable, memorable wilderness experience. Featuring a wide variety of foods and the ability to accommodate virtually any dietary restriction or preference, Northern Lights continues to redefine the possibilities of cooking in the wild.

The off-season is the time for Northern Lights to develop and perfect new recipes for the coming season. The emphasis on quality, freshness and variety contributes to what make Northern Lights trips the premier sea kayaking tours in North America. Many guests comment that they eat better on Northern Lights trips than they do at their favorite restaurants. The international menu selections, featuring fresh foods and scrumptious desserts, are consistently an unexpected highlight of Northern Lights trips.

Since 1983, Northern Lights Expeditions has specialized in sea kayaking the fabled waters of the Inside Passage. They specialize in close encounters with wildlife, especially the orcas of Johnstone Strait and the Robson Bight orca sanctuary.
